SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- The UC Santa Barbara women's indoor track and field team is currently ranked 25th in the nation as of February 20, 2012. UCSB is the only Big West school currently ranked top 50 in the nation, and the only other University of California school in the top-20 is Berkeley who is ranked number 19.
Barbara Nwaba's pentathlon and high jump marks have been the main contribution for the Gaucho's top-25 ranking so far this season. Her automatic qualifying score of 4,244 which she earned at the University of Washington Invite gives UCSB 16 placement points and a 2.84 additional bonus points and her high jump mark of 6-0.5 is also good for a total of 17.31 points. Nwaba is currently ranked second in the NCAA for both events.
Nwaba will join Brianne Theisen of University of Oregon (ranked first) and Jasmine Cotten (ranked third) who have also qualified to compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships March 9-10.
Junior Irene Kujore has also made an impact for the Gauchos with her weight throw mark of 64-9.25. She is currently ranked 28 in the NCAA Divison 1 rankings.
