29 Gauchos Earn Big West Academic All-Conference Honors
A total of 29 UC Santa Barbara student-athletes were named to the Big West Academic All-Conference teams for the spring 2011 season it was announced by the league.

Barbara Nwaba will compete unattached in the Heptathlon at the USA Outdoor Championships
Junior Ryan Martin and Freshman Josh Scherer will represent the UCSB track and field team at the 2011 USA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. June 23-26. This will be Martin's second and Scherer's first appearance at a USA Outdoor National Championship.

Nwaba Places Eighth in Heptathlon at USA Nationals
Despite a disappointing finish at the USA Track and Field Championships this past weekend, Ryan Martin has a lot to be proud of. Martin placed 19th in the preliminary round on Thursday and failed to move on to finals by less than one hundredth of a second. Martin finished fourth in heat four with a time of 1:48.81 The winner of the men's 800m event was Nicholas Symmonds of Oregon TC Elite who ran 1:44.17.
