Marielle Gruenig Named to District Eight All-Academic Team

Santa Barbara, Calif. - Senior Marielle Gruenig was named to the District Eight at-large All-Academic First Team for the first time in her four-year career Thursday.

The Basel, Switzerland, native finishes her studies at UCSB with a 3.93 GPA and will graduate with a degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Gruenig has already obtained admission to the Biochemistry PhD program at the University of Wisconsin, one of the top-rated schools for Biochemistry in the nation.

Gruenig is a three-time Big West scholar athlete and has received Dean's honors every quarter at UCSB. Last year, she was granted the UCSB Golden Eagle Award for academic excellence.

On the court, Gruenig had another solid season for the Gauchos in 2006, going 14-4 in No. 1 singles and 12-3 in No. 2 doubles with teammate Chelsea Glynn. Gruenig was named to the Big West's First Team in singles for the third time in 2006.
