No. 4 UC Santa Barbara vs. No. 3 Cal Poly
at the Big West Conference Championships (Indian Wells, Calif.)
What to Expect
The UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team will enter the Big West Championships with an impressive 15-5 on the season. However, four of the five matches came at the hands of Big West opponents (4-4 Big West). The Gauchos will look to improve upon their record Friday afternoon at the Big West Conference Championships when they face No. 3 seed Cal Poly.
Big West play
The UCSB women will look for revenge against No. 3 seed Cal Poly after losing 5-2 at home on Feb. 20. The match came early in the year where the Gauchos had dropped to 1-3 on the year. Since that mark, UCSB has rebounded well, notching three victories in four attempts to end the year. Most recently, the Gauchos have topped UC Riverside, Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Northridge. The women of blue and yellow will hope to work off of their hot streak and move into the semi-finals on Saturday.
The Bottom Three
In singles, Natalia Lozano, Asagi Onaga and Bryanna Ojeda have all won their last four matches. The trio, who play at the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 spots respectively, has ended the season with a combined 42-13 dual record. They have given the Gauchos a well-needed boost and are a big part of the reason that UCSB has only five losses in a 20-match season. In doubles, Ojeda and Onaga have teamed up to post an 11-1 record at the No. 3 slot. The pair currently holds the second best record on the team, behind Michelle Murphy and Sofia Novak's 12-1 dual match record, split between the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
