Four members of the UC Santa Barbara women's team will be competing in their final home match this Friday, Apr. 11 against Big West opponent UC Davis. Seniors Brittany Kausen (Irvine, Calif.), Juliette Mutzke (Newport Beach, Calif.), Charlotte Scatliffe (San Bernardino, Calif.), and Marta Simic (Belgrade, Serbia), will be gracing the Rob Gym Tennis Courts for one last time. Kausen, Mutzke, and Scatliffe have been part of the Gaucho tennis program for all four years, while Simic transferred from Broward Community College in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., two years ago.
Back On The Winning Track
The UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team snapped its five game slide last Sunday against UC Riverside with a 7-0 sweep of the Highlanders. In two of their matches during the losing streak, UC Santa Barbara was defeated by a tight score of 4-3, with one of those close matches coming against powerhouse Long Beach State. The Gauchos are tied for fourth place at 3-3 in the Big West conference with UC Davis and Cal Poly respectively.
Visitors From The North
Davis enters Friday's battle against UC Santa Barbara 11-7 overall, and 3-3 in Big West conference play. Since returning from final exams, the UC Davis women's tennis team is 2-1. The Aggies have wins over non-conference opponent Portland and conference foe Cal State Fullerton, and dropped their match against UC Irvine. The Gauchos have dominated the all-time series, owning an 8-1 record over the Aggies. Last year UC Santa Barbara topped UC Davis 5-2.
The Cal Poly women's tennis team is reeling, having lost four straight matches by a combined score of 25-3. The Mustangs were ranked No. 74 before being dropped from the newly released ITA women's tennis team rankings. Their most recent defeat was a 7-0 shutout courtesy of No. 37 ranked and conference leading Long Beach State. UC Santa Barbara barely edged Cal Poly at home a year ago 4-3. The Gauchos lead the all-time series against the Mustangs 23-10.
