Santa Barbara, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team will open their home schedule with a pair of matches this weekend. The first match will be tomorrow at 1:00 p.m., when they take on visiting Fresno Pacific, with the second coming against Cal State Bakersfield at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Gauchos are looking for their first victory, after opening the season with three matches on the road. Despite the losses, the team has looked impressive against some tough opponents, including 30th ranked Arizona State.
Over the first three matches, the Gauchos showed significant improvement, especially in doubles play. After being swept in doubles against Arizona, they came back to take two out of three the next day. This is even more impressive, considering the fact that some of the doubles pairings are playing together for the first time.
Newcomers Annabel Gledden and Jordan Dockendorf have both found early success, each picking up their first victories as Gauchos on the opening road trip. Dockendorf picked up her first victory against Northern Arizona, while Gleddon won two of her first three collegiate dual matches. Both women, along with the rest of the team, will look to continue improving with the opening home matches this weekend.
After the two matches this weekend, the next home match will be February 27th, when the Gauchos face UC Davis in their first Big West showdown.
