Big West Showdown Weekend
After a break from action last week, the UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team will travel north to take on Big West rivals UC Davis and Pacific. The two matches will be especially critical for the Gauchos as to set the tone for Big West play this year. In their season opener, the women of blue and yellow rocked Cal State Bakersfield 7-0. UCSB will look to improve upon their record and stand atop the Big West rankings.
Let the Big West Games Begin
The UC Davis women's tennis team has already played seven matches and will play an eighth against San Francisco before mixing it up with UC Santa Barbara on its home turf. As of now, the Aggies stand at 4-3 on the season, with wins over Portland, Portland State, Santa Clara and UC Santa Cruz. In last year's season concluding weekend, the Gauchos powered past the Aggies, 5-2, with the help of seniors Charlotte Scatliffe and Marta Simic. UC Davis will look to even the score against visiting Santa Barbara on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
The reeling Pacific women's tennis team has struggled in the early going of the season, notching only one win in the past four matches. After season opening win, the Tigers find themselves on a three game skid. However, Pacific possesses a standout player in Jenifer Widjaja, who already boasts a 4-0 singles record. In last year's showdown, the Gauchos captured the doubles point and edged Pacific 4-3. Pacific will look to turn their losing streak around Sunday at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts.
