The UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team played in its final match this past afternoon at Cal Poly, losing to the Mustangs 7-0. The Gauchos conclude the regular season finishing 9-13 overall, and 4-4 in the Big West.
The Gauchos managed only one win in doubles play, as Jill Damion and Asagi Onaga defeated the Mustangs duo of Shannon Brady and Maria Malec 8-5. At the No. 1 doubles slot, No. 52 ranked Brittany Blalock and Steffi Wong came back to edge Marta Simic and Charlotte Scatliffe 9-8, with an 11-9 tiebreaker.
In singles, Cal Poly grabbed all six singles matches. The only match that went to three sets was at No. 4. Diane Filip won the first set 6-3, then Tova Hausman beat Filip 7-5 in the second. Filip outlasted Hausman in the third 11-9.
The Gauchos return to action April 25, at the Big West Tournament in Indian Wells, Calif.
