Gauchos Drop 5-2 Decision at Cal State Northridge, Host Hawaii in Home Finale Saturday Morning

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara had its three-match winning streak ended on Thursday afternoon as it dropped a 5-2 decision at Cal State Northridge. The Matadors claimed the doubles point and then won four of six singles contests en route to the victory.

The Gauchos won singles points at No. 4 and No. 5. Freshmen Asagi Onaga and Tova Hausman posted the wins. Onaga defeated Ana Matijasevic 6-2, 6-1 to give UCSB one point and Hausman swept Kasia Krasinska, 7-6, 6-4.

Silvia Gutierrez, Kanykey Koichumanova, Canna Furuta and Sonya Kumar each won their singles contests for the Matadors, all by way of sweeps over Marta Simic, Carina Bjornstrom, Charlotte Scatliffe and Brittany Kausen.

Cal State Northridge earned the initial doubles point, taking two of the three contests. At No.1 doubles, Gutierrez and Koichumanova beat Simic and Scatliffe 8-4. At the No. 3 spot, Furuta and Kristy Fournell clinched the doubles point with an 8-5 victory over Hausman and Kausen.

UCSB drops to 8-7 overall and 4-2 in Big West play. Northridge improves to 8-5 on the season. The Gauchos will host the University of Hawaii in their final home match on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. on the Robertson Gym Courts.
