Gauchos Crush University Of Wyoming

Feb. 11, 2011

Santa Barbara Calif - UC Santa Barbara women's tennis swept previously ranked University of Wyoming 7-0, at the Robertson Gymnasium Courts Friday, stretching its current winning streak to four matches.

The Gauchos have been riding a hot streak of late sweeping three straight opponents entering today's match. Wyoming was ranked No.75 nationally before falling out of the rankings last week.

After splitting matches at courts #2 and #3 the doubles point came down to the #1 spot where Natalia Lozano and Jordan Dockendorf took on highly touted Simona Synkova and Kim Ginkel. The match went to a tiebreaker and the Gauchos quickly found themselves down triple match point at 3-6 before Lozano and Dockendorf rallied back to pull out a 10-8 victory over the #62 ranked doubles pairing in the country.

Lozano and Dockendorf improved their record to 4-0 at #1 doubles and registered their first win over a ranked tandem.

In singles, Paola Cos got the ball rolling with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Carly Van Hollen at #5 and Jordan Dockendorf quickly followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Kim Ginkel at #4. Jill Damion secured the overall match defeating Alexandra Kovacs 6-2, 6-2 at #2.

"We had not let up in singles," said head coach Peter Kirkwood. "There was going to be no chance of letting this one get away."

The Gauchos have now won four-straight matches all by shutout, accumulating 26 consecutive match points in the process. Their overall record is now 4-1.

Women's tennis will be back in action Sunday, at 9:00 a.m. against the University of San Francisco Dons at the Robertson Gymnasium Courts.
