SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Less than 24 hours after recording its first victory of the season, the UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team posted its second win with a 5-1 triumph at Santa Clara on Saturday.
While no doubles matches were played because of rain, the Gauchos won five of six singles contests. UCSB's Chelsea Glynn swept Santa Clara's Kelly Leathers at No. 1, 6-1, 6-1 and Mio Fukushima recorded a sweep at No. 6, defeating Myra Davoudi by scores of 7-6 and 6-2, but the other wins came in three sets.
At No. 2, Andrea Pintar dropped the first set 5-7, but then rallied to win the next two, 6-4 and 7-5. Charlotte Scatliffe also lost the first set, 3-6, before turning the tables and winning 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3. At No. 4, Leslie Damion topped Casey Knutson, 7-5, 5-7, 6-1.
The lone Bronco point came at No. 5 where Erika Barnes defeated UCSB's Kristen Wilson, 6-3, 6-1.
Coupled with their Friday afternoon victory over San Jose State, the Gauchos have now evened their record at 2-2. UCSB will remain on the road for one more match when it travels to Cal State Fullerton for the Big West opener on Feb. 11. The Gauchos play their first home match of 2006 on Feb. 19 when they host UC Riverside.
