UCSB, Ranked 69th, Drops Season-Opening Match at UCLA, 7-0
Jan. 24, 2006
LOS ANGELES - UC Santa Barbara, ranked 69th nationally, dropped its season-opener at 12th-ranked UCLA by a score of 7-0 in a non-conference contest at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins, who downed LMU by the same score in their season opener last week, improve to 2-0 on the year. UCSB, which was playing its season opener Tuesday, is now 0-1.
Despite playing with a different doubles lineup for the second match in a row, UCLA had little trouble in doubles play, taking victories on all three courts to claim the point. The closest match of the afternoon came at the No. 3 position, where UCLA's Tracy Lin and Alex McGoodwin edged Andrea Pintar/Charlotte Scatliffe, 9-8(3).
The Bruins turned in six dominating performances in singles play, winning every match in straight sets.
UCSB returns to action when it travels to Fresno State on Saturday, Jan. 28, for a 1:30 p.m. contest against the Bulldogs.
