SANTA BARBARA, Calif.- Following a commanding weekend which aided in clinching the regular season title, Amit Lev Ari was named Big West Conference Athlete of the Week for the first time this season.
Lev Ari was overpowering in both singles and doubles with an undefeated, four-win weekend while allowing just seven combined points against during UCSB's final matches of the regular season as the Gauchos bested CSUN 5-2 and then swept Cal Poly with a 4-0 final.
During the first match of the weekend, the junior shut down Matadors' Monika Van de Vondel at singles No. 1 with a 6-0, 6-3 romp after she teamed up with Elizaveta Volodko in doubles to swamp Jolene Coetzee and Ana Fraile Toboso with a 6-1 win from court two.
To finish off the season in the first spot of the Big West standings, Lev Ari and Volodko blanked Cal Poly's Susanne Boyden and Grace Olyphant at doubles No. 2 before the Nes Ziona, Israel native smothered Emily Louie Meadors with a 6-3, 6-0 rout from the first spot in the lineup.
In a career year, Amit Lev Ari finished with a 20-7 overall singles record while going 14-4 in dual matches including a profound 6-1 record from court one.
Although this was her first weekly honor of the year, Lev Ari is tied for the second most Athlete of the Week nominations in the Big West this season with five and was the recipient of UCSB's Player of Winter Quarter Award.
