SANTA BARBARA, Calif.— The UC Santa Barbara women's team was honored with several members earning conference awards earlier today.
Junior, April Scatliffe along with freshman, Jaimee Gilbertson, were named to Second Team All Conference. Scatliffe faced tough competition all year as the junior played primarily as the one seed for the Gauchos. The Redlands, Calif. native ended the dual season with a 7-16 record.
Coming to UCSB midseason, Gilbertson established herself as one of the top players in the Big West. The Noosa, Australia native started the year in the back part of the ladder, but with an eight match win streak and later a three match win streak, Gilbertson finished the season as the one seed. The freshman had an impressive 12-5 singles record where she finished undefeated on courts 1, 5 and 6.
Two Gaucho duos also notched Honorable Mention recognition this season. The top pair of Scatliffe and sophomore, Luisa Ortiz Candido finished the season with a 2-3 record during the dual campaign. Establishing themselves as a top team with a season highlight of winning four in a row, Gilbertson and sophomore, Priscila Garcia, claimed the Honorable Mention award with a 5-3 record together.
With quality depth and talent, the Gauchos will look forward to next season to hopefully capture the title of Big West champions.
