The Gauchos are coming off a weekend of tough and gritty performances as the team split its matches against UC Davis and Fresno State. Hosting the Aggies for a conference match, the Gauchos brought its best performance so far this season. Dropping the doubles point, UCSB faced an early deficit against Davis. The task seemed to be no problem as all six players for UCSB won their respective singles matches to record the impressive 6-1 victory. One day after handily defeating Davis, UCSB faced off against Coach Thibodeau's former team, Fresno State. The Gauchos could not convert the doubles point and with narrow wins from Fresno State during the singles matches, UCSB endured a tight 4-3 loss to the Bulldogs.
The day's action against Fresno State was so close that the Gauchos could have pulled off the victory if it was not for a couple of points in several matches. Despite the loss, there are encouraging signs for the future of the team as the Gauchos are finally fully healthy.
Junior, April Scatliffe continued to play on court No. 1 as she defeated Davis' Meghan Heneghan, 7-5, 6-1, but dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Fresno State's Sophie Watts. Fellow junior, Stacy Yam won both her matches this weekend; highlighting the weekend with a miraculous come from behind 1-6, 7-6, 7-6 win against Sofya Malysheva. Freshman, Jaimee Gilbertson is continuing her hot streak as she has won her last five singles matches.
