Gaucho Women put up fight in Jack Kramer Invitational
PALOS VERDES - The Gaucho women were handed out a tough draw for the second annual Jack Kramer Invitational, an ITA individual preseason tournament this weekend. All seven players entered the 32-player singles draw, as well as six players entering the 16-player doubles draw. The women were faced with top players from schools such as LMU, Baylor, Georgia, UCLA, Pepperdine and University of San Diego.
April Scatliffe lead the team out with an early win in the first round against her LMU opponent who retired after Scatliffe won the first set 6-4, and was up 2-1 in the second. The Santa Barbara women put up a fight each match, taking seven matches to three sets, each ending in close 10-point tie breakers. The Gauchos were amongst some of the best collegiate players in the country, and were able to hold their own, making their opponents work for every point.
On the doubles side, the duo of Stacey Yam and Erica Cano teamed up to win their first doubles round 8-3 against their Pepperdine opponents. Cos and Garcis as well as Scatliffe and Meehan each took home a doubles win as well.
The Gauchos will be back on the courts on February 1 for their first dual match against Northern Arizona at 12pm.
