The breaststroke events did not show as much depth as the other races for either the women's and men's teams. Emily Adamcyzk took three second place finishes in the 50, 100 and 200 events behind Cal Poly's freshman phenom, Angie Haven who placed first in all three. Tim Freeman took first place in both the 50 (26.74) and 200 (2:07.53) breaststroke while Cal Poly's J. Carter Richards took first in the 100 (58.14).
Women's team captain Jessica Scwalb proved to be the leader of the IM events with three first place finishes in the 100 (1:00.85), 200 (2:08.00) and 200 (4:28.02) IM.
The men did not fair so well in the IM with Cal Poly's Peter Kline taking three firsts in the 100 (52.49), 100 ((1:54.19) and 200 (4:02.81) by a significant amount in each event. UCSB's Mitchell Long took second in the 100 (54.14) and 200 (1:57.53).
Distance freestyle was again swept by both the Mustangs' men's and women's teams with Lacey Buck taking three, first place finishes in the 200, 500 and 100 freestyle as well as Matt Waggoner doing the same. The Gauchos took second and third place in all three events thanks to Emma Hunt and Megan Brown on the women's team and Brett Chamberlain and Shane Hurter on the men's team.
Sprint freestyle, again, proved to be the Gaucho's bread and butter. The women took the top spots in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle with Katie Stover, Ann Marie May and Katie Tomkinson leading the pack. May took first in the 50 and 100 freestyle with times of 24.17 and 52.27 while Stover took first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.81
The men also took one-two-three in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events with the freshman Ryan Hanni illustrating his potential to be leading the Gaucho men this season. Hanni took first in the 100 (46.61) and 200 (1:44.55) while Kevin Kuhn took first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.34, just out-touching Hanni. UCSB's Dan Morris took three, second place finished in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle.
The UCSB men's and women's swim teams will be hosting Cal State Northridge and UC San Diego on November 13 at Campus Pool.
