SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Four UCSB women's swimmers were honored as individual College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-Americans for the 2008-09 school year.
Each spring, following the collegiate national championships in each division, the CSCAA selects a distinguished group of individual student-athletes to honor as its individual Scholar Academic All-Americans. To earn recognition as an individual, each swimmer must achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.5 and be selected to participate in the NCAA championships. Fewer than 6-percent of all collegiate swimmers and divers receive recognition as individual CSCAA Scholar Americans.
Earlier, the CSCAA honored the Gaucho team as an Academic All-American Team.
Earlier this year UCSB Athletics unveiled the BE Great initiative. BE Great is dedicated to maximizing leadership ability, strong on-campus interaction, and general welfare for all 450 student-athletes and Intercollegiate Athletics staff at UC Santa Barbara. BE Great also focuses on personal and career development, diversity, and social awareness, along with ensuring academic success. UCSB has a 92% student-athlete graduation rate.
