May Named Mid-Major All-American, 10 Gauchos Earn Honorable Mention Nods

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Senior Anne Marie May was named a 2010 Division I Mid-Major All-American it was announced today by She was one of sixteen women and nine men that earned their qualification for the 2010 NCAA Division I Championships. Additionally 183 swimmers, including 10 Gauchos, were given Honorable Mention status by earning NCAA `B' time standards during the 2009-10 season.

May competed in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle at the NCAA Championships placing 20th and 37th, respectively. It was her fourth consecutive appearance at the national championships.

The Carmel, Calif. native finished her collegiate career as one of the most decorated swimmers in UCSB history. She was a two-time Big West Women's Swimmer of the Year and won the 50 free conference title all four years of her career and captured three straight 100 free titles (an injury during the Big West Championships prevented her from competing in this year's 100 free race).

UCSB women Emily Adamczyk, Naomi Javanifard, Jessica Schwalb and Katie Stover were named as Honorable Mentions.

Adamczyk earned a NCAA "B" cut in the 200 breaststroke, while Javanifard earned cuts in the 100 butterfly and the100 backstroke. Jessica Schwalb earned a "B" cut in the 400 individual medley and Stover earned hers in the 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke.

On the men's side, Kevin Ferguson, Freeman, Kevin Kuhn, Danny McClary, Chris Peterson and Scott Vogelgesang were recognized with Honorable Mention accolades.

Ferguson earned a "B" cut in the 100 backstroke while Tim Freeman earned cuts in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Kuhn had a "B" cut in the 50 free and McClary had three cuts: the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly and 200 individual medley. Peterson earned his cuts in the 50 and 100 free and Vogelgesang had his in the 200 free and 500 free.

The men's and women's swim teams both finished in second place at the 2010 Big West Championships.
