Yamauchi Repeats as MPSF Swimmer of the Week

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Sophia Yamauchi of the women's swim team was selected as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Swimmer of the Week for the second consecutive week it was announced on Wednesday by the Conference. The Santa Rosa, Calif. native won three events with three personal records during last weekend's meet against UC Davis and Pacific.

Yamauchi captured her first win in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.33) with the second fastest time in the MPSF this season. She then went on to capture the win in the 200 breast (2:14.31), which is also the second fastest MPSF time. She rounded out her individual swims by taking first in the 200 individual medley (2:02.71).

The freshman also swam the breaststroke leg in the Gauchos' `A' 200 medley relay. The team won the event in 1:44.24, which is the top time in the conference.

The UCSB swim teams will conclude its 2010-11 dual meet schedule next Saturday, Feb. 12 when they head to Cal Poly for an 11 a.m. meet with the Mustangs.
