MANCHESTER, England - Former UC Santa Barbara swimmer Katy Freeman ended the decade with a bang as she captured two top-three finishes at the Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool while representing the United States at the meet which ran Dec. 18-19 in Manchester, England.
Freeman captured second in the 200 meter short course breaststroke with a time of 2:17.50 surpassing Tara Kirk's previous American record of 2:20.70 in the event, which was set in 2004. Rebecca Soni of the United States won the event in 2:14.57, a new world record.
In the 100 breast, Freeman took third with a mark of 1:05.13 as the USA swept the top-three finishes. Soni also won the 100 breast with another world record time of 1:02.70.
Team USA won the meet against the E-Stars - a European team - by way of a 185-78 score.
The meet marked the second time that Freeman has represented the United States in an international meet. She also swam at the World University Games this past summer in Belgrade, Serbia.
