Tempe, Arizona - Final score of the dual meet UCSB 82.5 Arizona State 84.5, UCSB giving up lead in the last event of the day at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center, Arizona. The Gauchos had six first place finishes throughout the meet, reluctantly giving up the 200 yard freestyle relay to ASU. The Gauchos set the pace of the meet with their first place finishes by freshmen Liz Wagner (200 free) and Jessica Cruzat (400 IM), junior Jennifer Schwalb (200 fly), freshmen Jenisse Demeulenaere (100 free) and Kaitlin Freeman (200 breast).
"It was a very exciting meet, it was swam fast" said Head Coach Gregg Wilson. "ASU whittled away, finally coming out on top. It was great competition. We swam very fast, and we were not happy about the win, but happy about the swims."
Liz Wagner had a best time in the 500 free but took fourth place with 4:59. Schwalb also achieved a best time in the 500 free with a 5:03, but took fifth place. Schwalb continued to do well in the 200 fly. The medley relay was outstanding Schwalb, Cruzat, DeMeulenaere and Freeman are a winning combination.
The Gauchos will challenge ASU again tomorrow at 10am at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.
