SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - It was an emotional day as UCSB team captains Katie Moeckel and Jen Schwalb faced tough competition from the University of the Pacific said goodbye to Campus Pool. The Gauchos won two individual events and a relay against the Tigers, giving up the meet for the second year running.
Senior captain Jen Schwalb won the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.62. She also placed second in the 200 and 100 fly just behind Pacific's Kristin Okazaki, with a time of 2:03.78 and 56.59, respectively. Anne Marie May took first in the 50 free with a time of 23.92. May has consistently performed very well in this event all season and the Big West teams are anticipating her arrival at the Big West Championships later this month. May also took second in the 100 free, 52.51, to UOP swimmer Ja-Neil Bragg.
The Gauchos finished up the meet by winning the last event, the 200 free relay, the Gauchos A team included Naomi Javanifard, Jamie Lathers, Nadia Dwidar and Anne Marie May and swam a time of 1:34.71 to beat the Tigers 1:39.47 posted time.
The Gauchos will face the Tigers again later this month at the Big West Championship meet in Long Beach, California on February 21-24, 2007 at the Belmont Plaza.
