SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The seniors on the UCSB swim teams stepped up during their final home meet of the season and helped lead the Gauchos to a pair of dual meet victories over UNLV on Saturday afternoon at Campus Pool.

"We had a very good meet," said coach Gregg Wilson who's men's and women's swim teams posted identical scores of 155 to 107. The men had a great victory upsetting UNLV's #22 ranking by the CSCAA.

The Gauchos came out strong, winning the first event of the day: the 200 medley relay. The women's `A' team of Naomi Javanifard, Emily Adamczyk, Katie Ure and Anne Marie May came in at a quick 1:45.08. The men's `A' team of Kevin Ferguson, Tim Freeman, Danny McClary, and Chris Peterson came in at 1:31.66.

The 100 backstroke was another fast race for the Gauchos. Both the men and women came in one-two thanks to Javanifard (56.58) and Ure (57.82) for the women and Ferguson (50.95) and Ryan Garcia (52.00) for the men.

Not surprisingly, the UNLV sprinters were no match for the Gauchos. The top-four finishes in the 50 freestyle were swept by May (23.63), Javanifard (24.06), Kendall Neely (24.28) and Sasza Lohrey (24.63). Senior captain, May, also took another first in the 100 freestyle with a top time of 51.71.

The 500 freestyle was all UNLV with Lara Sreibers coming in at 5:03.36, but right behind her, proving how hard she has been working all season, was freshman Emma Hunt for UCSB, coming in at a time of 5:03.41.

For the men, the 500 freestyle went to UNLV's Keir Maitland with a fast time of 4:35.95. Maitland also took second in the 1000 freestyle and the 200 freestyle.

Ure finished strong during her last home meet, taking another first place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.55.

The Gaucho men had a great 200 IM race, sweeping the top-four spots. Evan Simoni finished with a very quick 1:53.29, Brandon Shilling with a 1:55.59; Garcia came in at 1:56.19 and Freeman followed, touching the wall in 1:57.09.

The Gauchos capped the day off by finishing first in both the men and women's 400 free relays. The women's `A' team came in at a time of 3:28.82 thanks to Katie Stover, Javanifard, Courtney Bauer and May. The men's `A' team came in with a time of 3:02.38 thanks to Scott Vogelgesang, Peterson, Ryan Hanni and Ferguson.

The Gauchos are in action next on January 29 when they travel to UC Davis.
