SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Gauchos welcomed Big West Conference rivals UC Davis to Campus Pool on Saturday for a dual meet showdown. The Gauchos walked away with the win 175 to 87. UCSB won both the relays and nine of the twelve individual events. UCSB's Liz Wagner took home three individual wins and newcomer Anne Marie May had two individual wins.
Wagner started off the meet by taking the win in the 200 freestyle 1:52.33. She continued on to win the 200 back with a time of 46.77 and the 200 IM, 2:07.14. She finished up the meet by swimming in the 400 free relay, her relay team taking fourth.
Anne Marie May blazed to first in the 50 free with a time of 24.25. May took the lead in the 100 fly and held it to finish first with a 1.00.59. She also helped her teammates take first in the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay.
Other winning swims came from Jessica Cruzat with a win in the distance event 1000 free, 10:28.12. Erin Yamamoto won the 200 fly with a time of 2:07.47 and teammate Niki Schrakamp finishing second in that event, 2:13.45. Nadia Dwidar won the 100 free, 52.88 and team captain senior Jen Schwalb, who did not swim her usual events at this meet, still was able to capture the win in the 500 free with a time of 5:06.09 and contributed to the 200 medley relay win as well as the 400 medley relay contributing significant points to the Gauchos.
The Gauchos will head to Las Vegas on January 28, 2007 and will be back at home on February 3, 2007 to swim Pacific in the last home meet of the season.
