Gauchos Defeat University of Nevada in Dual Meet

Santa Barbara, Calif. – The UCSB women's swimming team took on the University of Nevada in a dual meet at Campus Pool on Friday. The Gauchos came out on top 119-82 in a shortened 11 event format.

The Gauchos began the meet by taking two consecutive events. Led by the relay team of captain Allison Knight, Andrea Ward, Katie Records, and Meghan Bicomong the ladies took first place in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 3:48.30. Reid Whaley followed with a win in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:31.09).

Senior captain Sophia Yamauchi swam to a first place finish in the 200 yard individual medley in 2:04.02. Bicomong and Ward finished first in individual events as well; Bicomong in the 50 yard freestyle (24.05) and Ward in the 200 yard butterfly (2:03.89). Knight also swam to victory in the 200 yard backstroke, finishing with a time of 2:04.56. The Gauchos wrapped up the day winning the 200 yard freestyle relay in a brisk 1:36.45 led by Ward, Yamauchi, Kimmie Kreuzberger, and Julia Mikota.

The Gauchos will head back into the pool on Saturday where they will be joined by the men and take on UNLV in a dual meet at Campus Pool beginning at 10:00am.
