The UCSB Men's and Women's Swimming team competed in an early season test at a 2-day tri-meet in San Luis Obispo, Calif. The UCSB Women defeated Hawaii, 208-161 and Cal Poly, 255-113. The Men split there team scores, defeating Cal Poly 247.5-119.5, and falling to Hawaii, 185-181.
The Gaucho women received strong individual performances from seniors Sophia Yamauchi and Andrea Ward. Andrea Ward came in first place in the 500 Yard freestyle (4:55.18), 100 yard butterfly (55.31), and 200 yard butterfly (2:03.46). Captain, Sophia Yamauchi won the 200 Yard individual medley with a time of 2:05.59 and placed first in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 57.31.
Coming in first place in the women's 400 yard individual medley was Heren Alanis, with a time of 4:25.17. Alanis also took home first place in the 1650 yard individual freestyle 17:09.86.
The UCSB women dominated the relay events. Coming in first place in the women's 200 and 400 yard medley relays. Both relays were lead by Yamauchi, Ward, Allison Knight, and Katie Records. The 400 yard freestyle relay team lead by Kimmie Kreuzenberger, Meghan Bicomong, Ward and Yamauchi came in first place with a time of 3:29.61. The 800 yard freestyle race was won by the team of Micaela Velasquez, Ward, Alanis, and Bicomong with a time of 7:34.11.
Three Gauchos were atop the women's100 yard backstroke. Junior Carissa Metcalf came in 1st place with a time of 1:04.87. Her teammates Katie Records and Jiana Vargem came in 2nd and 3rd with times of 1:05.01 and 1:06.22, respectively.
In women's diving, sophomore Hannah Tomp finished in 3rd place with 258.3 points.
