2012-13: Placed 13th in the 500 freestyle (5:00.14), 14th in the 200 freestyle (1:52.31) and 18th in the 200 butterfly (2:06.74) at the MPSF Championships…Had a season-best second place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:08.36) in addition to a third place finish in the 500 freestyle against Pacific and LMU on Feb. 2…Took home a third place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:12.60) against UNLV on Jan.19.
2011-12: Placed 20th in the 500-yard freestyle (5:02.29), 10th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.73) and finished 12th in the 200-yard butterfly, posting a personal record in that event with a time of (2:03.29) at the MPSF Championships…Also set a personal record in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:38.98 at a dual meet against UC San Diego.
2010-11: Won the 200 butterfly consolation final, placing ninth overall, with a time of 2:05.19 at the MPSF Championships…Finished 10th in the 200 free (1:52.02) and 13th in the 500 freestyle (5:01.97).
Attended Archbishop Mitty High School where she swam for coach Tom Miller...Was a three-time team MVP for the Monarch Lions...Had All-American consideration times all four years...Won three Central Coast Section team titles...Also swam with Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics under coach Tony Batis.
Monica Faye Garcia was born on March 8, 1992 in San Jose, Calif....Parents are Willy and Emily Garcia...Has an older brother, Ryan, who also swims for UCSB...Is majoring in biology at UCSB and aspires to have a career in the medical field after graduation...When she isn't swimming, she likes to listen to music, dance, watch movies, eat and spend time with family and friends...Favorite movie is "White Chicks"...Her most memorable athletic achievement was swimming six out of her seven best times at her last club swim meet...Names her parents and her brother as her personal heroes...Favorite aspect of college swimming is meeting new people and enjoying swimming...Says she laughs at everything.
