2012-13: Placed second in the 400 Individual Medley (4:18.79), third in the 1650 freestyle (16:50.99), fourth in the 500 freestyle (4:52.80) and contributed to a third place finish in the 800 free relay (7:21.76) at the MPSF Championships…Finished first place in the 1000 freestyle four times coming against UC San Diego, UC Davis and Cal Poly twice…Placed first in the 400 Individual Medley with a time of 4:29.41 against Cal Poly on Feb. 9…Finished in first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:02.36 coming against UNLV on Jan. 19…Placed second in the 200 Individual Medley (2:09.44) against Pacific and LMU on Feb. 2.

2011-12: Placed eighth in the 500-yard freestyle – and set a personal record in the prelims of that event (4:52.05) – seventh in the 400-yard individual medley (4:22.02) and fourth in the 1650-yard freestyle (16:50.48) at the 2012 MPSF Championships…Also swam the second leg as a part of the 800-yard freestyle relay, which placed first and set a new UCSB school record with a time of 7:17.82 at the MPSF Championships. 

Attended La Jolla High School…Swam for coach Tom Atwell…Was a four-year All-American…Won the 2010 Coach’s Award and was named the team’s MVP in 2011…Set school records in the 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 200 medley relay and 400 free relay…Set a CIF Division II record in the 100 free…Also swam for North Coast Aquatics where she was coached by Jeff Pease…Earned several academic awards, including the 2009 UC Irvine Academic Merit Award, 2010 National Hispanic Recognition and 2011 AP Scholar With Honor. 

Herendira Clare Alanis was born on Jan. 7, 1994 in Park Ridge, Ill.…Parents are Jose and Rita Alanis…Has two older sisters, Valerie and Maddie…Is majoring in psychology…Enjoys reading, listening to music, traveling, going to the beach, watching movies and eating…Favorite movies are “Crazy, Stupid, Love” and “You’ve Got Mail”…Enjoys the music of Mumford and Sons, as well as Third Eye Blind…Her favorite reads include “The Time Traveler’s Wife” and “Harry Potter”…Achieving Nationals cuts in the 200 and 400 IM are her most memorable athletics moments to date…Stephen Colbert is her hero…Favorite aspects of college swimming are meeting new people and being a part of a close-knit team.
