OMAHA, Neb. – Former Gaucho Katy Freeman competed in her second U.S. Olympic Trials semifinal and first this year on Tuesday night and Bob Hwang made his 2012 trials appearance as action continued in Omaha.
In Tuesday evening's 100 breaststroke semifinals, Freeman finished 16th, touching the wall in 1:09.92. Rebecca Soni won had the top time of the evening, touching in 1:05.82. It was Freeman's second semifinal appearance after qualifying in the 200 breast in 2008. Freeman will compete again in this year's 200 breast competition on Friday, she is seeded fifth in the event.
Bob Hwang was the lone UCSB swimmer that competed on Wednesday. He finished the 200 butterfly preliminaries with a time of 2:06.06, which placed him 118th.
On Thursday, eight current or former Gauchos will be in action at the trials as Kevin Kuhn, Chris Peterson, Kevin Ferguson, Ryan Hanni, and Katy Tomkinson tackle the 100 freestyle. Chris Leon and Tim Freeman will be competing in the 200 breaststroke.
