SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Sophomore swimmer Andrea Ward was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Athlete of the Week after an outstanding weekend at the Texas Hall of Fame Invitational, which saw her break three UCSB school records.
Ward opened the weekend by shaving .45 seconds of her own 100 butterfly record with an NCAA 'B' cut and 10th place finish (53.38). On day two, she posted a new 200 freestyle record (1:48.55), won her heat and placed 17th in the event. She wrapped up her individual weekend effort with the 200 butterfly record in the event's prelims (1:59.40). She ended up placing 15th overall (1:59.46).
Ward also swam in four Gaucho relays as UCSB took 10th in the 800 Free (7:30.84), 11th in 400 Medley (3:43.84), 12th in the 400 Free (3:23.79/'B' cut) and 200 Medley (1:42.95/'B' Cut).
This is Ward's second MPSF Athlete of the Week honor this season; she also garnered the award the week of Nov. 23.
