SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara senior pitcher Jennifer Davis was named to the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-West Region Second Team it was announced Thursday.
A total of 248 players from 121 different teams comprise the first and second regional teams.
Davis, who helped to lead the Gauchos to their third NCAA Regional bid in the last four years, was named Big West Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday. She enters Friday's NCAA Tournament game against Hawaii with a record of 14-14 on the season. She also has a 1.35 earned run average in 191.1 inning of work and opponents are batting just .164 against her. Additionally, Davis has collected 203 strikeouts to rank second in the Big West. This season, she became UCSB's and the Big West's all-time career leader in strikeouts and she enters postseason play with 801.
Finally, Davis was named First Team All-Big West and she was twice named Big West Pitcher of the Week. She is the first Gaucho to earn All-Region honors since outfielder Leslie Simien did so in 2004 and the first pitcher since 1986.
