SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Senior Christine Ramos (Long Beach, Calif./Lakewood HS) was named the Big West Conference Player of the Week it was announced Monday. The second baseman was stellar last weekend during the Gauchos' three-game sweep of conference foe UC Davis.
The senior had two multiple-hit games against the Aggies, who entered the weekend allowing opposing hitters to bat just .234.
After starting the series with one hit in three at-bats, Ramos collected six straight hits over games two and three. Her top all-around showing was in the finale where she collected an RBI, scored two runs and added a stolen base as the Gauchos pounded UC Davis, 12-0.
For the series, Ramos hit .778 (7-for-9) with a RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. Over the weekend she broke her own school record for hits in a single season with 70 this year. She leads the conference in both hits and three-hit games (8).
The Gauchos will conclude the regular season next week when they host Cal State Fullerton for a three-game Big West series. The set will begin with a noon doubleheader on Friday, May 8 and conclude with a noon game on Saturday.
