SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Sophomore pitcher Krista Cobb was named the Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week and the Golden 1 Credit Union/UCSBgauchos.com Gaucho of the Week after leading the UCSB softball team to a three-game sweep of Long Beach State over the weekend at Campus Diamond.
Cobb started off the series with a complete game in UCSB's 5-2 win over the 49ers. She allowed two earned runs on seven hits while allowing four walks and striking out five.
The West Hills, Calif. native stayed in the circle for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader and tossed another complete game in the 2-1 victory. She allowed seven hits, one run, walked one and struck out a pair.
Cobb saved her best for last in a grueling 1-0 10-inning victory in the series closer. She once against pitched the entire game and allowed just six hits and one walk while striking out a pair. The victory marked the Gauchos' first shutout of the year and the series win marked Santa Barbara's first over Long Beach since 2001.
For the weekend, Cobb recorded a 0.88 ERA across her 24 innings of work. The Big West Pitcher of the Week honor is the fifth of her career and her first this season.
The Gauchos will be back in action this weekend when they host Pacific in a three-game Big West Conference series at Campus Diamond. Sunday's series closer will mark the final home contest of the 2010 season and the five Gaucho seniors will be honored prior to first pitch.
