SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara pitcher Krista Cobb (West Hills, Calif./El Camino Real HS) piloted the Gauchos to several key wins over the course of last week, netting Big West Pitcher of the Week accolades in the process.
Cobb started her week with a bang, allowing just six hits and two runs in UCSB's 7-2 win over #5/4 UCLA. She also picked up a non-conference win over Santa Clara after allowing just two hits and no runs in the 6-0 triumph.
The freshman then started game one against UC Riverside in both clubs' Big West opener, a 4-1 UCSB win. Cobb allowed just one earned run, four hits and struck out a career-high tying nine batters in the victory. All told in the conference series, she allowed just two earned runs and nine hits.
For the week, Cobb went 4-1 with a 1.09 ERA in 26.2 innings. She allowed 10 runs (four earned) and struck out 23 against 10 walks.
The honor marks the third Big West Pitcher of the Week accolade of her young career.
The Gauchos will continue Big West action next weekend at No. 24 Cal Poly. The Gauchos and the Mustangs will face off in a doubleheader on Saturday at 4 p.m. and will conclude the series with a single game at noon on Sunday.
