SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara pitcher Jennifer Davis shut down the New Mexico State offense in the first game of the Gauchos' doubleheader against the Aggies on the way to the Big West Pitcher of the Week award.
The senior allowed just two hits, no runs and struck out 12 on the way to a complete game win over NMSU. Davis' 12 strikeouts tied her season-high and was nearly half of the batters she faced. With her third shutout win of 2007, Davis is now 3-5 but possesses a league-low 0.97 ERA.
This honor is the first conference award this season for the Gauchos and is Davis' seventh career Big West Pitcher of the Week honor. In addition to this week's conference accolades, the Whittier, Calif. native has also been named the Santa Barbara News Press Female Athlete of the Week.
Davis and the rest of the Gauchos will be back in action on Sunday, March 25 when they host non-conference foe Loyola Marymount in a doubleheader scheduled to start at noon at Campus Diamond.
