Junior pitcher Jennifer Davis was named the Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 5, 2005 it was announced Monday.
Davis started three of the Gauchos' four games over the weekend against No. 9 Oregon State, No. 5 Stanford and Purdue. She posted 1-2 record and is now 6-5 overall this season.
Despite losing two games, the Whittier, Calif. native pitched masterfully during Cal State Fullerton's Worth Invitational, limiting the ninth-ranked Beavers to just four hits on Friday. She walked five and struck out six, but took the loss after the Gaucho offense was held scoreless.
On Saturday, she picked up the biggest win of her career, shutting out the fifth-ranked Cardinal on a total of three hits in a 2-0 Santa Barbara win. She walked none, fanned nine and allowed only three base runners, as the Gauchos picked up their first win against a Top 25 opponent in 2006.
Davis got the nod Sunday against Purdue and allowed three earned runs on five hits, while striking out five in complete eight innings of work. She also had an impressive game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in the 5-3 loss to the Boilermakers.
In three games, Davis pitched 21.0 innings, allowed 12 hits and nine runs while posting 20 strikeouts.
This is Davis' first Big West Pitcher of the Week award of the year and fifth of her career.
