SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The final two games of the UC Santa Barbara Softball by the Beach Tournament have been cancelled due to inclement weather and poor field conditions it was announced Sunday morning by UCSB head coach Brie Galicinao. Sunday's pairing between Portland State and St. John's will not be rescheduled, but UCSB will now play St. John's in a doubleheader on Monday at 1 p.m.
Five games were played during the first two days of the tournament, which originally was scheduled to be played Friday through Sunday at Campus Diamond. The Gauchos picked up three-straight wins at the home-opening tournament, defeating Portland State, 1-0 on Friday and 8-5 on Saturday. UCSB also posted a 3-0 shutout over visiting St. John's on Saturday. Portland State defeated St. John's twice, 4-3 and 3-1.
Following Monday's doubleheader, UCSB (6-6) will head to Columbus, Ga. next weekend for the NFCA Lead-off Classic, its lone out-of-state tournament of the regular season. The Gauchos are scheduled to take-on No. 12 Michigan, N.C. State, No. 15 Mississippi State, Syracuse, and No. 17 DePaul during the three-day event, which runs Feb. 29 through Mar. 2.
