Remainder of the Softball By The Beach Tournament Cancelled

Feb. 19, 2006

The three remaining games in UC Santa Barbara's Softball By The Beach Tournament scheduled for Sunday have been cancelled after heavy rains fell throughout the night, it was announced today.

Santa Barbara's matchup with Tulsa, along with San Diego State vs. Long Beach State and Rider vs. Cal State Northridge have been called off.

The tournament originally had six schools scheduled to play a total of 15 games at two different sites, but the conditions at both Girsh Park and UCSB's Campus Diamond are unfit to play after the inclement weather all weekend.

On Friday, rain caused a three-hour delay in the Gauchos win over San Diego state and the cancellation of three of the six scheduled contests. After extensive work on the field Saturday morning, two games were squeezed in and a third was called after the fourth inning at Campus Diamond.

Only one game was played at Girsh Park this weekend.

UCSB returns to action Friday, February 24 when they take on Ohio State in the Palm Springs Invitational at 5:30 p.m.
