Freshman pitcher Krista Cobb threw a perfect game against Wagner on Saturday, helping lead the Gauchos to a 7-0 win over the Seahawks in her first collegiate start. Cobb retired 21 straight batters and tallied eight strikeouts in the victory.
Cobb's perfect game was the first in UCSB's history as a Division I program.
She also closed Friday's game against Wichita State, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three in the final two innings against the Shockers. Cobb was credited with the win in the 8-5 victory.
Cobb is now 2-0 on the young season and holds a 0.00 ERA. For her standout performance, she was also named Big West Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week.
The Gaucho softball team opened the 2009 season with a 4-0 record at the Kajikawa Classic, which was hosted by Arizona State this past weekend. UCSB will be back in action on Thursday when they head to the Campbell/Cartier Classic being hosted by San Diego State.

Chris Devine (Men's Basketball) - Chris Devine averaged 19.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games last weekend. He also moved into fourth-place on UCSB's career scoring list.
Lauren Pedersen (Women's Basketball) - In two victories last week to help UCSB improve to 10-0 in the Big West, she averaged 15.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.5 blocks. She has also set a new UCSB record by making 29 consecutive free throws.
Gillian Morgan (Women's Water Polo) - Scored 20 goals across four games at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational last weekend. Tallied a career-high six goals in each of Sunday's two games.
