PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - Oregon senior Amy Harris threw the program's 13th no-hitter and the UC Santa Barbara softball team fell to the 22nd-ranked University of Oregon 3-0 as both teams wrapped up the Palm Springs Classic Sunday afternoon.
OU improves to 9-7 on the year, while the loss drops UCSB to 7-5. Harris faced just two over the minimum as only two Gauchos reached base.
Sophomore catcher Ericka Hansen reached on an Oregon error in the second inning, while junior right fielder Shelby Hensler was hit by a pitch in the third. Harris had four strikeouts and walked none to improve to 6-4 overall this season. Her no-hitter is the first since 2004 and the 13th ever in program history.
Jennifer Davis took the circle for the second straight contest and allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out seven and walking one. She falls to 5-3 on the year with the loss.
The Ducks took the lead early, going ahead 1-0 in the first inning on an RBI single by Beth Boskovich that scored Lovena Chaput.
Freshman Sari-Jane Jenkins hit her second home run of the season to put the Ducks ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning and senior Dani Baird added an RBI single that scored Chaput to make it 3-0 heading into the seventh.
Harris retired the side in the seventh to secure the win and the no hitter. Sunday marked the first time that UCSB was shut out this season.
Santa Barbara leaves Palm Springs after recording a record of 2-3 in the three-day event. They opened the tournament with a 10-1 thrashing of Ohio State, before falling to No. 10 Oklahoma 6-2 and No. 19 LSU 6-1. UCSB then rebounded with a 2-1 victory over Kansas Saturday night.
The Gauchos return to action next weekend when they travel to Fullerton, Calif. for Cal State Fullerton's Worth Invitational March 3-5. They open the tournament with Northwestern Friday at 1:30 p.m.
