UCSB Opens the 2006 Season with a 3-2 victory over Sacramento State.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara ace Jennifer Davis pitched a complete game allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out eight and walking one, as UCSB outlasted Sacramento State 3-2 in eight innings in the San Diego State Campbell/Cartier Tournament opener.

Junior left fielder Jessica Hejna went 2-for-4 and drove in a run, while freshman first basemen Tiffany Wright finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in her Gaucho debut.

Freshman second baseman Christine Ramos made her presence felt at the top of the order with an RBI and a run.

Senior pitcher Nikki Cinque also went the distance for the Hornets, turning in a five hit, three run performance in a losing effort. She fanned four batters. Freshman catcher Jamie Schloredt was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

The Gauchos move to 1-0 on the year while the Hornets fall to 0-1 in the season opener for both squads.

The Campbell/Cartier Tournament continues tomorrow when the Gauchos square off with UMASS at 9:00 a.m., followed by a showdown with national runner-up UCLA at 1:00 p.m. at the SDSU Softball Complex.
