Joining the Gauchos for her third season in the dugout is assistant coach Shelby Hensler.
In her previous two seasons as an assistant, the Gauchos have compiled a 56-29 record.
A three-year letterwinner with the Gauchos, Hensler earned 2004 All-Big West Honorable Mention accolades after helping UC Santa Barbara to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance and its best Big West Conference record and finish (14-7, tied for second).
In 2004, Hensler started 60 games as a freshman and posted a .269 batting average, which was third amongst the Gauchos. She spent much of the 2005 season recovering from an injury, but started 20 games and posted a .987 fielding percentage with 133 putouts.
In 2006, she once again helped UCSB to a NCAA Tournament appearance, appearing in 39 games for the Gauchos.
Hensler earned her B.A. in sociology with a minor in exercise science from UCSB in 2008.
She currently works as a personal trainer and spinning instructor in Santa Babara. Hensler is planning on attending the Fire Academy in the near future.
