FULLERTON, Calif. -- The Gauchos dropped their first game 3-1 to Cal State Fullerton Friday night under the lights at Anderson Field.

Kristen Clark led off the game with a single into center field, and advanced to third with a one out single into right center by senior Arianna Palomares. Sami Stark followed up with a hit by pitch to load the bases but the Gauchos were not able to capitalize and ended the top of the first inning with a strike out and pop up.

UCSB defense did not allow a ball to reach the outfield grass during the first and third innings, but Fullerton was able to score two runs in the second on three hits and one error.

Ashley Ludlow pitched her thirteenth complete game of the season in the circle for the Gauchos and recorded four strikeouts. Ludlow has totaled 157 strikeouts in her 39 appearances.

Two extra base hits brought in the only run of the game for UCSB in the top of the fifth inning. Jacqueline Hinojosa led off the inning with a double into right field and ended up on third from a throwing error by second baseman Sydney Colenzo. With only one out remaining in the inning freshman Melanie Menor came up with her second hit of the game- an RBI double into left center field to bring in Hinojosa.

The Titans answered back in the bottom of the fifth with their third and final run of the game. After a throwing error, fielder's choice, and walk loaded the bases with no outs Alexis Gonzalez hit a sacrifice fly into center field to bring the score to 3-1. First baseman Sierra Altmeyer turned an unassisted double play to end the inning and scoring threat.

Menor led the team with two hits, including a double, and also recorded an RBI, while the Gauchos overall outhit the Titans 6-5.
