SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Keilani Jennings belted a solo home run in the top of the second inning and two UC Santa Barbara pitchers combined for a four-hit shutout as the Gauchos blanked Santa Clara in the final game of a three-game series on Saturday, 1-0.
After pounding out a 10-1 win in game one of a doubleheader, UCSB played game two closer to the vest, but still improved to 19-8 on the season. The Broncos fell to 3-20.
Jennings belted her game-winning home run leading off in the top of the second. Her round tripper was one of just three hits for Santa Barbara, but it was enough as a pair of Gaucho hurlers combined for the four-hit shutout.
Freshman Alex Pingree (3-1) got the start for UCSB and responded by tossing 5.0 innings and allowing just four hits. She gave up no walks and posted one strikeout. Junior Andriana Collins entere the game to start the sixth inning and completed the whitewash with two perfect innings, earning her first save of the season.
UCSB is of until Saturday, Mar. 23 when it opens Big West play with a doubleheader against Cal State Fullerton. The Gauchos and Titans will play two on Saturday beginning at noon. They will wrap-up the series with a single game at noon on Sunday, Mar. 24.
