IRVINE - UC Santa Barbara forward Genelle Ives was tabbed the Big West Women's Soccer Player of the Week after the sophomore erupted for three goals over two games and helped the Gauchos to road wins over Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside.
In Friday's 4-1 win against the Titans, Ives scored a pair of goals on four shots. She netted the first goal in the 13th minute when she shed her defender and beat the goalie to the far left post for a 1-0 UCSB lead. Ives dented the scoring column once again in the 80th minute, accounting for UCSB's final goal of the evening after volleying a cross into the open right side of the net.
Ives scored her third goal of the weekend - and fifth of the season - on Sunday against the Highlanders. In the contest's waning seconds, she was brought down by a UCR defender in the penalty box on a breakaway and converted the ensuing penalty kick for the final 3-0 tally.
Ives, the 2005 Big West Co-Freshman of the Year, is tied for seventh in the Big West with the five goals. She has helped the Gauchos outscore their opponents 11-1 during their current three-match win streak.
