SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Four UC Santa Barbara players were included in TopDrawerSoccer.com's list of College Players to Watch for the Big West Conference. The list was released on Friday.
Senior Kailyn Kugler, who was the Big West Offensive Player of the Year in 2009, was ranked as the top player in the league. Last year, Kugler had nine goals and five assists for 23 points.
Seniors Kylie McDonald, Jacqui Simon and Nicole Romanowski were ranked fourth, eighth and 18th respectively. McDonald and Simon each joined Kugler on the All-Big West First Team in 2009 while Romanowski successfully made the shift from the midfield to central defender.
The Gauchos, who were selected to win the Big West in a poll of the league's coaches, will open the 2010 season on Friday when they host Cal State Northridge in a 7:00 p.m. contest at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium. While the Matadors are a league opponent, the game will be a non-conference encounter.
This Friday's season opener is part of Gaucho Athletics' sponsored Faculty Free Friday program where all UCSB faculty and staff will be admitted free to selected Friday events in 2010-11. Contact the gaucho ticket office for more information.
