SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Hamid Sedehi, who served as the head women's coach at Concordia University in Irvine, Calif., from 2004-2008, has been named assistant coach at UC Santa Barbara, head coach Paul Stumpf announced Friday.
While coaching at Concordia, he experienced more success than any coach in school history, posting a record of 47-34-12. He led the team to top-25 rankings in 2005, 2007, and 2008. From 2002-2004, Sedehi served as the assistant coach for both the men's and women's programs, where he helped guide the women's team to the NAIA Regionals in each of the three seasons, and helped guide the men's team to its first NAIA national tournament appearance.
"Hamid is an outstanding addition to our staff," Stumpf said. "He brings a great background at many levels and he is well-connected in the club soccer world. In addition to being a very good coach on the field, he will also be a major part of our recruiting."
Sedehi has also found tremendous success coaching at the high school and club levels. He served as the girl's varsity head coach at Irvine High School from 1990-1994, finishing with a record of 52-18-14. During his time there, his team won the Sea View League Championship in the 1992-93 season, and finished as a CIF Semi-Finalist in 1993-94.
He then took over as the girl's varsity head coach at Capistrano Valley High School in Mission Viejo, Calif., where he lead his team to an overall record 43-7-7. Sedehi spent two seasons at Capistrano Valley, and led his team to the No. 1 CIF ranking both seasons.
From 1990-2006, Sedehi was the Assistant Director of Coaching for the Irvine Strikers club team, where he guided teams to two national championships and seven regional titles. He coached over 200 girls that would eventually play at various collegiate levels.
Most recently, Sedehi served as the Director of Coaching at Pateadores Soccer Club in Mission Viejo.
Sedehi played at and graduated from Concordia prior to coaching at the school. He also competed at Orange Coast College and was an All-Mission Conference performer.
The two-time defending Big West Tournament champions and NCAA Tournament qualifiers, the Gauchos will return almost the entire team next season, as they are only losing two graduating seniors.
