UCSB Connects with Community Through Kids Clinic, Exhibition Match
March 11, 2008
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara women's soccer team sponsored a free clinic for girls of all ages last weekend. The clinic was preceded by a game between the Gauchos and Ajax, the fourth-ranked women's club team in the world.
"Everyone had a blast and the local support was great for the game and the clinic," said UCSB Associate Head Coach Kai Edwards. "The team had a blast teaching the girls new dribbling moves and scrimmaging with them at the end."
Four-year old Victoria won a signed Gaucho jersey, and Katie won a signed soccer ball. The UCSB program plans two more similar clinics in the fall.
"These clinics are a great way for the team to connect with the community, and especially the kids," Edwards said. "We look forward to doing this more in the future."
The game between UCSB and Ajax finished in a 1-1 tie.
