Box Score

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara scored two goals in the first 3:28 of the match and senior goalkeeper Jamie Considine blocked a penalty kick in the 71st minute as the Gauchos topped UC Davis Friday night, 2-1.

After being blanked by UCLA on Wednesday night, UCSB wasted no time getting on the board against the Aggies. Just 1:22 into the match, sophomore Romy Barber took a pass from senior Allie Kueny just inside the upper left portion of the penalty box. Barber pounded a shot past Davis goalkeeper Krystyn Lizak for the first goal of her career.

At 3:28, Kueny took a ball to the left of the goal, passed it back into the box. Freshman Linda Allen trapped it and cracked a shot just inside the left post, beyond the reach of Lizak to make it 2-0 UCSB.

The shots by Barber and Allen were UCSB's first two of the night and the Gauchos had just three more the rest of the way.

The Aggies had a golden opportunity in the 71st minute when Kristin Aja was awarded a penalty kick after being tripped in the box by a UCSB defender. Aja tried to blast the ball into the right side of the goal, but Considine made a diving block to keep the score at 2-0 UCSB.

Davis scored its only goal of the night at 81:40 when Sita Kuteira's corner kick was headed-in by Danielle Contro to make it 2-1 Gauchos. The Aggies did not come close to scoring in the final 8:20. UCSB did have one more outstanding chance when sophomore Nicole Remmenga slid a pass to freshman Genelle Ives behind the Davis defenders. Ives dribbled into the box all alone but the ball was smothered by Aggies second goalkeeper of the night, Megan Davis.

The victory ended a three-match losing streak for the Gauchos. UCSB is now 6-6 on the season, the Aggies drop to 3-5-2.

Santa Barbara returns to action when it opens Big West play at UC Irvine on Friday, Oct. 7 in a 7:00 p.m. match.
